Among the key components of the entire hot-dip galvanizing line, the kettles and the related auxiliary equipment play a crucial role.

While kettles intuitively hold the molten zinc (or zinc bath) in which steel artifacts are dipped, other auxiliary units and systems enhance productivity, reduce the need of maintenance, help saving energy while keeping a saber environment.

Kettles

Kettles are the crucibles that hold the molten zinc and are assembled within the furnace equipment.
Our offerings, thanks to the cooperation with the German manufacturer W. PILLING GmbH, include cutting-edge kettles with virtually no limitations on dimensions and shapes.
Kettles are manufactured with a low-carbon steel to make them as the less reactive as possible when in contact with the molten zinc and, during manufacturing, they are deformed only at elevated temperatures to minimize mechanical stress of materials. Additionally, electroslag welding (ESW) method is used, utilizing a single layer to weld through the whole kettle thickness, ensuring a consistent integrity.

Highlights

No dimensioning limits
Depending on galvanizer’s needs, a specific kettle may be virtually designed with any dimension.

Robust
Up to 70mm (2.76”) thickness

No mechanical stress
During kettle manufacturing, bending operations are carried out only with warm sheets

Uniform welding
Only one layer in the entire welding process (ESW)

White fume confinement and exhaust hood - Scrubbing system

As the steel is dipped in molten zinc in the kettle, dense white smoke rich in tiny particulate is released in the air because of generation of zinc oxide and because of the combustion of ammonium chloride of the flux.
The kettle can be equipped with a leaking-proof walls hood with mechanized windows and swinging doors. It includes pipes, ducts, filters, and ventilation for the proper extraction of fumes, channeled through the stack effect, towards the scrubbing system.
Finally, the hood provides operators with protection from splashes of molten zinc.
Status and operation of the scrubbing unit can be checked and managed in real-time through a dedicated digital system.

Mechanized system for dross and ash removal

Usually, the maintenance of the zinc bath requires the manual extraction of dross (typically every two weeks) supported by tools attached to an overhead crane.
This process is often strenuous, hazardous, and unsafe, resulting in a dirty and unpleasant work environment with poor zinc bath cleanliness.
The aim of a device for mattes and ash removal is to simplify and mechanize the mattes and ash retrieval operations, making them easier, safer and more effective.
The system includes a sturdy steel shuttle that travels on runways above the kettle, equipped with a bucket which is tailored to the shape of the kettle while, at the other end, a metal blade cleans the surface of the molten zinc removing ash. Collected mattes and ash are deposited outside the white fume containment structure for their appropriate disposal.

Quick kettle extraction system kettle-out™

It makes possible to extract the kettle by simply moving it on dedicated pathways or tracks (and, similarly, positioning the new one). The system eliminates the need for overhead operations to remove the old kettle, using cranes or similar equipment.
It allows saving time and costs in event of kettle replacement, ensuring to resume operations shortly.

Automatic kettle covering system

It allows the automatic positioning of a kettle cover to prevent heat loss during both shutdown and idle times, saving on energy consumption.

Automatic zinc ingots refiller jumbo-feeder™

Refilling the kettle of zinc ingots is made easier, quicker and safer for operators.
